Pose Your Best - 2
Part 2
Arms and Hands
A very common statement from clients when taking photos is “tell me what to do with my hands”. And it is clear why, if you are standing still and stiffly, the arms hang awkwardly. Simply being sure to keep your spine straight and shoulders two inches back will help. But you still have your hands hanging there.
The easiest thing in group poses, is to place your hand around the waist of the person next to you, or to hold their hand. If you are on the outside, women can put their hand on their hip, and men can place their hand in their pocket.
Having your hand in your pocket keeps your elbow open and loose, and at a degree wider than 90 degrees, so you look relaxed and comfortable. A 90 degree angle will make you look strong, such as when a man crosses his arms across his chest with his shoulders back and chest out. A tighter angle of less than 90 degrees will bring energy to the pose and draw the viewers eye to that area.
Wrist angles are important too. Any 90 degree wrist angle is going to draw the eye and look uncomfortable and unnatural. Avoid having fingers and wrists curled up in 90 degree angles.
